Vines and Sheet, Provence

When I began this watercolor in the village park in Viens, a sheet was hanging up to dry on the railing, and I liked its relationship to the white clouds, and to the curves of the vines and rectilinear trellis and building. Then out came a young lady, and down came the sheet. I decided today, finishing the painting a month later in my Vermont studio, that the empty space in the right bottom corner needed that white sheet after all.
