We’ll be exploring exciting new areas, plus revisiting some of our favorites, with a more concentrated focus on drawing and painting than in previous Paris workshops.

Plus Susan will lead our group in the Louvre, Musee D'Orsay,  Pompidou Center, and other renowned museums, focussing on some of her favorite paintings in French art.

Color Lessons from the Masters

March 28th-31st (four days), 2017, 10:00 am-4:00 pm

This unique workshop offers an in-depth examination of the work of art history's great colorists, including Giotto, Veronese, De Kooning and other 20th century painters.

We'll explore their masterful use of a wide range of approaches to color composition, including complements, analogous color, color value, color mixing, and chromatic neutrals.

Then we'll take these ideas and apply them to our own painting through landscape, still life, and abstract exercises.

Oil, watercolor, or acrylic are welcome.

Click here or call the Art League at 703-683-2323 to register.

"In one day, Susan told me all the highlights of all the unread art business books sitting on the floor of my studio. This should be a required course for all BFA students!"

Traveling with Your Sketchbook

March 24th (pm), 25th and 26th, 2017

This popular workshop teaches students to use gesture, contour, collage, and color to record their travels. Participants learn to use the sketchbook as a journal, and to make it a work of art. Students use picturesque Old Town Alexandria as source material, and for inspiration look at many artists' sketchbook journals. Past students say, “This class changed my life!”
